Growthadox - Embracing Paradox to Unlock Personal and Business Growth

Earlier this year I set about writing a book. I was afraid but the fear gave me energy. Fear? Why would you be afraid of writing a book?

Fear that I wouldn't be able to see it through. I did see it through. Fear that I wouldn't find the people I needed to help me. I did. You are all awesome. Thank you. Fear that it wouldn't be useful to those that read it or buy it. I'm about to find out.

Amazing. I wrote a book. I can't quite believe it. Whatever happens, whether it's successful or not, I've learned so much having a go.

Here's a short extract....

Going into this place where we face our fears is like entering a cave.

There’s a scene in the movie The Empire Strikes Back when the young hero, Luke Skywalker, is being trained by the master Jedi, Yoda.

There is a dark cave that Yoda urges Skywalker to enter and where he will battle evil.

Yoda says: “That place… is strong with the dark side of the Force. A domain of evil it is. In you must go.”

“What’s in there?” asks Luke

“Only what you take with you,” replies Yoda

It’s a way of saying that only by facing your fears you will find what you are looking for. Your strengths lie in overcoming your fears.

Next time you feel that fear, no matter how small, think about it as an opportunity. The fear is a signal that if you can be brave and face that fear,
you can unlock an opportunity to grow.
